School levies rejected

Operating levies for Highland Local Schools and Medina City Schools failed Tuesday night, leaving superintendents to emphasize the need
for a change in the way schools are funded.
In Medina, only 5,276 voters approved the 11.7-mill continuous levy; 9,554 were against it, according to unofficial results from the Medina County Board of Elections.

Hanwell elected mayor

MEDINA — It wasn’t a knuckle-biter in the Medina mayoral race.
As the results started pouring in Tuesday night, it was apparent former police chief Dennis Hanwell, 52, would lead the city starting Jan. 1.

Levy is vital to Medina district

MEDINA — Medina City Schools predicts a $13.29 million deficit by the end of June 2011 if an 11.7-mill incremental levy fails Tuesday, Treasurer Wally Gordon said.
