Bernice M. Crabtree, 95, formerly of West Salem, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, at Brenn-Field Nursing Home in Orrville.
She was born in Farmer Township, Defiance County, on Aug. 27, 1912, to the Rev. Volney and Carrie Singleton Cross. Bernice was married to Howard O. Crabtree on Sept. 17, 1954, in Butler, Ind., by her father. She retired in her late 70s from Sandridge Salads in Medina and was a member of First Baptist Church in West Salem.
She is survived by her husband, Howard O.; daughters, Dorothy (Clifford) Reece of Lodi and Doris Schortgen of Waterloo, Ind.; son, Dorman (Beverly) Davis of Butler; daughter-in-law, Rachael Davis of Buchanan, Mich.; grandchildren, Roberta (Donald) Whitacre of Lodi, Bernard Schortgen of Waterloo, Glenn (Carla) Davis of Mishawaka, Ind., special granddaughter and caregiver Jean (Roger) Ridenour of Chatham Township, Fredrick (Tammy) Davis of Butler, Victoria Sweet of Waterloo, Torri (Jeffrey) Kronz of Butler, Susan (Steven) Mayse of Waterloo and Perry Davis of Butler; 18 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Miller of Butler; brother-in-law, Elmer Thompson of Lodi; and aunt, Opal Reed of Auburn, Ind.
Preceding her to heaven were her parents; first husband, Fredrick Davis; son, Donald Davis; sister, Alice Bice; brothers, Raymond and Robert Cross; and great-grandson, Donny Whitacre.
Service: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. The Rev. Jerry Arman of West Salem will officiate.
Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
Visiting hours: 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
