Virgil F. Frase, 99, of Mansfield, passed away, Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at Oak Grove Manor Nursing Home.
He was born March 7, 1908, to Melvin and Gertie (Spangler) Frase. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He was a retired caretaker from Camp Mowana. He loved his job with the camp since it afforded him the opportunity to be in nature and watch birds, the unique wildlife and the flowers.
He is survived by his sisters, Bernice Lehman and Vera Smith of Wadsworth, and Laverne Zarle of Akron; sons, Virgil D. (Audrey A.) of Litchfield and John (Mary) Frase of Woodlands, Texas; daughters, Lois (Neal) Rowland of Olmsted Falls, Jan Sorenson of Oshkosh, Wis., and Debra Watkins of Lexington, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; stepdaughters, Betty (Dan) Wilson and Mary (Fred) Shaffer of Mansfield, and Carol (Dale) Fritz of Mound City, Kan.; five stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth, in 1981; second wife, Edna, in 2005; and his parents.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Mansfield. The Rev. Cloyd Kress will officiate.
Burial: 2 p.m. at Manchester Cemetery, Manchester, Ohio.
Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Camp Mowana or First English Lutheran Church.
