Drug scale found on boy, 2, at courthouse

MEDINA — A woman and her two children were walking through the metal detector at the back entrance of the Medina County Courthouse on Thursday afternoon when her 2-year-old son set it off, sheriff’s Deputy Steve Clark said.

When a sheriff’s deputy searched the boy’s coat pocket, she found a scale used to weigh marijuana, Clark said Friday.

The boy’s mother said she entered the courthouse to use the restroom while her boyfriend was seeing his probation officer, Clark said.

The mother, Brittany Grodhaus, 18, of 735 Miner Drive, was indicted Thursday on a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering for a Dec. 8 incident in Lafayette Township.

Possible drug paraphernalia charges against her have not been filed yet, Clark said.
