Calling all bakers!

The Decadent Chocolate Dessert Contest and the Children’s Cookie Contest, affiliated with the American Red Cross Chocolate Festival, have been moved to the day before the Chocolate Festival on Feb. 1 at the Buehler’s River Styx Community Room.

In order to free up much-needed space for the Chocolate Festival on Feb. 2 at the Community Center at the Medina County Fairgrounds, the dessert contests were moved. Contest winners will be announced at the Chocolate Festival, and all dessert contest entries will be for sale at the bake sale on Saturday.

Entry categories for the Decadent Dessert Contest are professional, adult hobby (18 and older), high school and middle school. Entry categories for the Children’s Chocolate Cookie Contest are elementary school and preschool.

For a copy of the contest rules and entry form, go to www.medinaredcross.org. All registration forms must be returned to the Red Cross no later than Jan. 28.

It’s Chocolate Festival Time
Kick off Valentine’s Day early this year with the “mother of all chocolate festivals,” according to the February 2008 issue of Bon Appetit Magazine.

The American Red Cross of Medina County and The J.M. Smucker Company invite you and all your friends to the 2008 “For the Love of Chocolate” Festival. The event will feature decadent chocolate items from more than 30 chocolatiers noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Community Center at the Medina County Fairgrounds, 735 Lafayette Road, Medina.

If you love chocolate, you’ll love this year’s event, featuring changes to make the afternoon even better for attendees. This year, all attendees age 5 and older must have a ticket to enter the event. There will be two types of tickets: a $10 ticket for 10 chocolate samples and a $5 for five samples.

This family-oriented event features chocolate sampling; a Children’s Candyland area sponsored by The Hoffman Group with Gymbo the Clown, Teapot the Clown, games and amusements by the Medina Community Recreation Center and face painting by the Medina County District Library; a raffle of chocolate items; a silent auction; a bake sale featuring contest winners, chair massages by Nature’s Touch and a snack bar presented by Dominic’s Restaurant.
