Howard O. Crabtree, 87, formerly of West Salem, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Brenn-Field Nursing Home in Orrville.
He was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Louise, Ky., to Harvey and Nannie Holbrook Crabtree. He was a tree trimmer and also worked at Lodi Lumber and Bailey Mfg. in Lodi.
He is survived by his brother, Henry (Mary) Kelley of Burbank; sisters, Coralee Howard of Michigan and Essie Workman of Kentucky; stepdaughters, Dorothy (Clifford) Reece of Lodi and Doris Schortgen of Waterloo, Ind.; stepson, Dorman (Beverly) Davis of Butler, Ind.; stepdaughter-in-law, Rachael Davis of Buchanan, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Elmer Thompson of Lodi and Charles Repp of West Salem; sister-in-law, Margaret Kelley of West Salem; grandchildren, Roberta (Donald) Whitacre of Lodi, Bernard Schortgen Jr. of Waterloo, Glenn (Carla) Davis of Mishawaka, Ind., Fredrick (Tammy) Davis of Butler, Victoria Sweet of Waterloo, Torri (Jeffrey) Kronz of Butler, Susan (Steven) Mayse of Waterloo and Perry Davis of Butler; and special granddaughter and caregiver, Jean (Roger) Ridenour of Chatham Township; 18 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded to heaven by his loving wife, Bernice M., whom he married Sept. 17, 1954, in Butler by her father, the Rev. Volney Cross; parents, Harvey Crabtree and Nannie Holbrook Crabtree Kelley Robinette; sisters, Martha Repp and Irene Thompson; brothers, Harvey Kelley, Thurman Crabtree, Arnold Kelley and Walter Kelley; stepson, Donald Davis; and great-grandson, Donny Whitacre.
Service: 9 a.m. Friday at Parker Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. Pastor Randy Kâ€™Meyer will officiate.
Burial: Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
Visiting hours: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
