John R. Gamble Jr., 61, of Rittman, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Akron City Hospital.
He was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Lodi to John R. Sr. and Dorothy M. (Heath) Gamble and lived in Rittman since 1975. He grew up in Seville and enjoyed spending summers on his grandparentsâ€™ farm. He was a 1964 graduate of Cloverleaf High School and attended Ashland College and the University of Akron. He was employed at Morton Salt Co., where he started in an entry-level position and retired as plant comptroller. Mr. Gamble sponsored a child from the Christian Childrenâ€™s Fund for several years. He enjoyed reading, trips to the Bahamas for golf and scuba diving, fishing vacations in Canada and sailing on Lake Erie and in the Florida Keys. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in Korea during the Vietnam War era.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Gamble of Rittman; brother, Gary (Sara) Gamble of Westfield Center; sister, Judy Lucas of Medina; aunt, Clara Belle Johnson of Aiken, S.C.; uncle, Charles (Jill) Heath of Lafayette Township; three nephews; one niece; a grand-nephew; and many friends.
Service: 10 a.m. Thursday at Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Drive, Rittman. The Rev. E. Dennis Henkle will officiate.
Burial: Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
Visiting hours: 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
