Softball roundup: Beery very good

WADSWORTH — Alli Beery’s run-scoring RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday lifted Wadsworth’s softball team to a 4-1 Suburban League win over Revere.

The Grizzlies’ Nicki Eshelman had tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth with an RBI single.

Beery finished the warm afternoon with two singles and two RBI, while Katie McGaffick and Maria Adams had two singles apiece for Wadsworth (12-6, 7-3).

Grizzlies starter Stacey Ladd (8-6) picked up the win. She went the distance, walking just one and striking out six.

Revere fell to 11-8, 6-4.

Tallmadge 4, Cloverleaf 1
TALLMADGE — The powerful Blue Devils (16-3, 9-1) used a three-run third inning to hand the Colts this SL loss. Cloverleaf pitcher Jessica Browne (10-11) went the distance, allowing only one earned run. She struck out six and walked six. Melissa Mikovsky led the Colts (11-11, 2-8) with two singles, while Lindsay Smith had an RBI single, walk and sacrifice bunt. Cloverleaf’s junior varsity evened its SL mark with a 5-3 win as Katie Kilzer struck out eight and knocked in three runs.

Keystone 9, Buckeye 3
YORK TWP. — The state-ranked Wildcats (19-4, 10-0) got a huge scare from the gutsy Bucks (6-10, 4-6) in this Patriot Athletic Conference Stars Division matchup. Buckeye took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run homer by Amelia Shaw, then carried it into the fifth until Keystone rallied for six runs. Shaw added a solo shot in the seventh to close out the Bucks’ scoring. Danielle Sims went 4 2/3 innings and took the loss.
