Buckeye’s Miller headed to state

LEXINGTON — Buckeye junior Kyle Miller added his name to the long list of local qualifiers to the state track meet on Saturday afternoon.

Miller finished third in the boys 800-meter run at the Lexington Division II Regional, locking up a trip to Columbus this weekend. His time of 1:59.98 was nearly a half-second faster than his district performance.

Two other Medina County boys competed at the meet, but came up short in their bids to move on.

Buckeye sophomore Jake Boettner finished eighth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.89, while Black River senior Rob Altenburger was 11th in the 3,200 with a 4:46.61.

In other action, Black River sophomore Raichel Herte placed in a pair of events at the Navarre Fairless Division III Regional, but did not qualify for state.

Herte was sixth in the girls 300 hurdles and seventh in the long jump. The talented youngster holds the school record in all four of her events, and set three Patriot Athletic Conference marks this spring.
