County transit buses won’t run after hours

MEDINA — Those who use Medina County Transit buses for transportation to doctor’s appointments or other places now will have to do so between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., the office’s established transit hours.

Transit director Mike Uhas said cutting the rides off outside these times will save the office about $22,000 a year, which is needed because of the high cost of diesel fuel.

“It’s an industry-wide trend right now,” he told county commissioners at their meeting Monday.

Uhas said drivers make about 50 rides per week outside the established hours.

He said he is working with organizations that use the buses, such as the Kidney Foundation of Medina County, to see if patients can reschedule appointments to end before 6 p.m.

The change will go into effect sometime in September, Uhas said.

The loop bus that runs through Medina will continue to operate until about 7 p.m., he said.
