David A. Rice, 83, of Lodi, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008, at his home following a battle with cancer.
He was born in Lodi on April 9, 1925, to Noble and Verda Stentz Rice. He was a lifetime resident of Lodi. Mr. Rice retired in 1987 as plant manager of Lodi Lumber Co. He was a member of Lodi United Methodist Church and Lodi American Legion Post 523, and past member of Lodi Board of Public Affairs and Lodi Cemetery Board. He also was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mr. Rice was a World War II veteran, serving in China, Burma and India in the Army Corps of Engineers.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, whom he married Aug. 23, 1947; son, David M. (Susan) Rice of West Salem; twin sister, Virginia Kennedy of Lodi; brother, Richard (Lynne) Rice of Westlake; sister-in-law, Agnes Rice of Lodi; grandchildren, Kirsten (Grady) Mosey of Baltimore, Anna (Russell) Fisher of Medina and Gretchen (Robert) Birkes of Ashland; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Kayleigh Fisher and Audrey Birkes; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janet L. Rice; brothers, Joe and Charles Rice; sister-in-law, Helen S. Rice; and brother-in-law, George Kennedy.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. The Rev. David Howell will officiate.
Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Lodi.
Visiting hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
