Dennis James Kerwin, 75, of Brunswick Hills Township, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008, in Brunswick.
He was born March 31, 1933, in Cleveland. He was a 1951 graduate of Brunswick High School and played on the first football team in 1950. He gave many years of service to Brunswick Hills, serving as one of the original trustees, a volunteer fireman and a member of the zoning board and zoning board of appeals. He was a member of the Medina County Water District and the first president of the Medina County chapters of the AFL-CIO. Mr. Kerwin was employed by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 1871 for more than 50 years. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred A. (nee Orsagh) Kerwin; sons, Robert M. (Alycia) Kerwin of University Heights and Mark P. (Joy Lipscomb) Kerwin of Lyndhurst; daughter, Denise (Michael) Kerwin Clerici of Jonesville, Mich.; granddaughter, Nichole (Travis) McColley; great-grandson, Evan J. McColley; sister, Kathleen Kerr (Walter) Machler; and nephews, Christopher and Erich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Sylvia (nee Komerek) Kerwin.
Service: 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Brunswick Chapel, 3300 Center Road (state Route 303 and Interstate 71). Pastor Tina Green will officiate.
Military burial: Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
Visiting hours: 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
