Volleyball roundup: Buckeye wins three

GRANGER TWP. — Buckeye’s volleyball team opened its season in fine form Saturday by winning all three of its matches at a quadrangular.

The Bucks defeated host Highland in a spirited three-gamer, 25-14, 26-28, 25-18, then knocked off Norton (25-22, 25-17) and Parma (25-6, 25-8).

Two-time All-Gazette hitter Marah Farage led Buckeye with 42 kills, 25 digs and nine blocks, while Kara Joyce was 70-for-71 setting and had 26 service points and 21 digs.

Farage had 18 kills and Joyce dished out 21 assists against the Hornets.

Freshman Alexa Weiland also was strong for the Bucks with 18 points and 40 assists, while Sam Mueller scored 14 points against Parma.

Highland also had a successful day in its first matches under new coach Jill Quayle.

The Hornets swept Parma 25-20, 25-18, then took care of Norton 25-22, 15-25, 25-18.

BRUNSWICK — Wadsworth ripped off a pair of non-league victories by beating the host Blue Devils 25-23, 25-21 and Avon Lake 25-22, 30-32, 25-20. The Shoremen also nipped Brunswick 25-18, 19-25, 25-16.
