Regular Wadsworth programs in full swing at center

o Art Deco group 1 p.m. Monday: greeting cards, every first Monday; Giving Dolls, second Monday; independent projects, third Monday; Wadsworth Pointe sponsors a special project Sept. 22. Reservations required for all Art Deco programs.

o Giving Doll program volunteers make cloth dolls for area children in need from 1 to 2:30 p.m. every second Monday. Patterns available at the center. Bring donations of woven cotton and cotton blend fabric, fabric trims, fiber stuffing and hair-colored yarn to the center.

o Women’s Bible Study Group, Captain Debbra Grace of the Wadsworth Salvation Army, 10 a.m. every Thursday.

o Free watercolor classes 10 a.m. first and third Tuesdays, taught by members of the Medina County Art League. Call the center for a supply list.

o Breakfast Group eats out once a month. Call the center to make reservations for the 8:30 a.m. Sept. 16 breakfast at Charlie’s in Norton.

o Lively Seniors meets at 9:30 a.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays at the center for cards, sewing and socializing. Bring a sack lunch and stay for the afternoon meeting and program. The group also collects aluminum cans. The groups also meets once a month outside the center for a lunch outing.

o Grandmothers Club hosts a potluck luncheon at 11:30 a.m. the first Friday of every month.

o Regular bridge play, 12:30 p.m. Thursdays. Open pinochle tournaments, 12:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month

o Pool tournaments, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays.

o Line dance class, 7 p.m. every Monday, $2 per class.

Health and fitness

o Walk indoors 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, second floor indoor track.

o Altercare of Wadsworth free blood pressure screening 10 a.m. the second Tuesday.

o Bayada Nurses free blood pressure checks 11 a.m. first and third Wednesday and 10:30 fourth Tuesday.

o Free arthritis exercise classes, Arthritis Foundation Exercise offered by Altercare of Wadsworth, 10 a.m. every Wednesday.

o Tai chi classes 10 a.m. every Monday, $40 for eight weeks, payable to Mary Cuchna, instructor.

o Sheila Klimas, Ohio State University Extension, Medina County, free 15 to 20 minute cooking and nutrition program, at 11 a.m. Sept. 8 at the nutrition site.

o Body Sculpting class 6 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, $45 (senior discount) for eight-class term. Bring a set of 2- or 5-pound dumbbells, exercise mat, stretch band and water. For information and to register, call Flex City at 330-958-3539.


o Advance Directives by appointment. Medical Onsite Management will assist with advance directives planning free of charge. These documents — such as living wills and durable powers of attorney for health care decisions — detail a person’s wishes regarding medical treatment prior to an illness or accident. To make an appointment, call the center.

o An Alzheimer’s disease and memory impairment disability support group meets at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of the month. Respite care is available; call the center for details. The group is sponsored by the Greater East Ohio Alzheimer’s Disease
Association. The Office for Older Adults also provides monthly home visits to caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease to offer support, guidance and assistance; call 330-336-6657 for details.

o Medina County Veterans Service representative answers questions for veterans or veterans’ spouses at 1 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays.

o Senior house checks — A Wadsworth Police Department law enforcement representative will assess senior citizens’ homes (seniors 60 or older) to address safety issues and will visit seniors on a regular basis to ensure their ongoing safety. INFO: 330-334-1511, Ext. 6053.

o Parkinson’s disease support group 12:30 p.m. every third Tuesday.

o The Low Vision support group 12:30 p.m. the first Tuesday every month.

o Community Legal Aid will take applications for legal assistance 9:30 a.m. Sept. 18 for ages 60 and older.

o OSHIIP volunteers offer assistance with Medicare, Medicaid, supplementary and long-term care insurance problems by appointment. Call the center to schedule an appointment.
