Dr. Donald C. Snyder, 98, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008.
He was born July 11, 1910, in Fredericksburg, Holmes County, Ohio, the son of a sharecropper. He was raised in Medina County, graduating from Medina High School in 1929. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1932 and the Western Reserve School of Medicine in 1936. He spent four years in postgraduate residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University Hospitals of Cleveland and Metropolitan General Hospital. Dr. Snyder married his college sweetheart, Courtney Fulton, in 1937. They moved to Akron in 1940 to begin his practice. He became very involved in improving the health care of women, during pregnancy and throughout their lives. He helped train young doctors in this field, locally and by his involvement in the Akron and Cleveland Obstetrics and Gynecology societies and the National Council of American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a program participant for 18 consecutive years at the national meetings of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a longtime member of the Akron Rotary Club. He was a member of Bath Church for many years. Dr. Snyder was a wonderful and caring husband and father, and was dearly loved and cherished by his family. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Courtney Fulton Snyder; daughters, Sue Bowen of Akron, Judy Hankins of Medina, Laurel McClaren of Aurora, Colo., and Cynthia Grimm of Oak Island, N.C.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The services will be private.

Billow Fairlawn Chapel and Rose Hill Burial Park handled the arrangements.
