Garrity keeps moving up in tennis world

MEDINA — Medina resident Ali Garrity won the under-14 Midwest Level 5 Tournament at Towpath Racquet Club in Akron.
Garrity, an eighth-grader at Claggett Middle School, defeated Toledo’s Ashley Lafountain 7-5, 6-3 in the finals.
More than 240 girls competed in the event.
Garrity’s next tournament will be Dec. 13-15 in Dayton, where she will compete in national doubles with Aurora’s Madelyn Gilley.
Garrity, 13, also plans to start playing in U-16 and U-18 events in the Northeast District.

BOWLING: Sharon Nicholson rolled a 190 game and 535 series to highlight play in the Tuesday Morning Ladies League at AMF Medina Lanes. Chuck Lupica III had 269-772 in the Mixed Classic Trio League, while Curtis Jenkin had 267-740. Larry Himes had a 732 series. For the women, Deana Rogers had 258-678, while Debbie Lupica had 234-618 and Dawn Campbell had 235-582. In the Thomas Properties League, Lisa Taylor had 219-614 and Kim Takala had 227-611. Linda Nowell, Dawn Salata, Sandy Hansinger, Gale Arthur, Karen Birow, Karen McCarthy, Dianne Schriber and Marcia Ramey also had 200 games. Randy Clement rolled a 725 series in the Saturday Night Mixed Couples League, while Vic Feist had 278-714. Jason Feist had a 279 game. Nikki Stitler led the women with 224-625, while Jean Clement had 214-612. Jamie Hanwell and Judy Zook added 200 games.
