Fred John Schwab

Fred John Schwab, 57, of Medina, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009. He was born October 8, 1951 in Corry, Pennsylvania to Fred and Jane (Feldhus) Schwab, who preceded him in death.

He coached many youth teams from the Maverick’s basketball team to girls’ lacrosse, later becoming a certified girls’ lacrosse referee for Northeast Ohio. He was actively involved in the Medina Athletic Boosters Club. Fred’s hobbies and interests also led him to giving back to the community. For many years, he assisted with the YWCA of Medina County’s “Twin Sizzler” bike race. Fred always found time to help those in need.

Fred served on the Medina Community Recreation Center Advisory Council from its inception in 2001. Most recently, Fred gave his time and commitment to Hospice of Medina County. He led the board as president and was a driving force behind the development of a Hospice Center in Medina County.
Many know Fred from his many hobbies and accomplishments. He was an avid runner for many years, running nine marathons, competing in triathlons and bike races. Fred’s most recent hobby was scuba diving and he recently became a certified rescue diver.
