David Matthews Palamountain, 75, left us Friday, April 17, 2009, after a 14-year battle with cancer.

He was born in Ware, Mass., and earned degrees in business and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He married his loving wife, Nancy, in 1957 and was a devoted husband and an inspiration to his children and grandchildren. In his retirement, David was actively involved in the Leroy United Methodist Church, was an avid golfer who loved all sports, and enjoyed teaching at Hondros College. His career began as an engineer with Raytheon Corp. and in 1972 he came to Ohio as vice president of the Leisure Group (makers of Flexible Flyer sleds and the “Oscar”). Later, he joined Old Phoenix Bank as a senior vice president and prior to his retirement he became a certified financial planner.

David is survived by his wife, Nancy; loving children, Kim Freidrichs and David Palamountain Jr.; sons-in-law, Peter Waanders and Scott Freidrichs; daughter-in-law, Eileen Palamountain; grandchildren, Kate, Allie and Matt Waanders, Kyle and Kristina Freidrichs, and Kendall, Abby and Meredith Palamountain; and brother, Philip Palamountain.

He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Lynn Waanders.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Leroy United Methodist Church in Westfield Center on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with lunch following.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Road, Cleveland, 44106; or Hospice of Medina County, 797 N. Court St, Medina, 44256.
