LODI —A 67-year-old village resident died Monday after the car in which she was a passenger hit a light pole on Medina Street.

Sandra Trigg, of 106 House St., was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. at Lodi General Hospital. She was the passenger in an Oldsmobile driven by her husband, Kenneth Trigg, Police Chief Stephen Sivard said.

At about 4:14 p.m., Kenneth Trigg, 71, was driving south in the 200 block of Medina Street when he failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the right side of the road, Sivard said.

The right side of the vehicle struck a light pole, severing it, before flipping over and coming to rest on its roof, Sivard said.

Kenneth Trigg was transported by helicopter to Akron General Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The accident is the first traffic fatality in Medina County this year, Ohio Highway Patrol Sgt. Pablo Cruz said.

Medina Street was closed until after 9 p.m. while Lodi electric department crews removed the utility pole and erected a new one. Wires caught fire and several residents were without power until crews could switch back on the electrical grid, Sivard said.

Police are investigating the accident, but Sivard said alcohol was not believed to be a factor. Whether seat belts were worn has not yet been determined, he said Tuesday.

The Lodi Fire Department and EMS, and the Lodi Street Department also were at the scene, he said.

Sandra Trigg’s obituary appears on A2.
