CLEVELAND — A Medina County assistant public defender, who represented juveniles, was arrested on a child pornography charge after he allegedly sent more than 200 images and videos to an undercover FBI agent.
Sean O’Toole, 41, was arrested Friday at his Lakewood residence and is charged with receipt and distribution of child pornography in federal court. He had been under investigation since January, when he allegedly sent the photos and videos to an undercover agent in the Innocent Images Unit in Maryland, FBI spokesman Scott Wilson said.
Agents from the Cleveland FBI’s cyber crime squad also participated in the investigation, Wilson said. He didn’t know where O’Toole was being held.
O’Toole represented indigent juvenile defendants in Medina County Juvenile Court and previously represented adult defendants in Medina Municipal Court. He made his initial appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Cleveland.
If convicted, he could spend between five and 20 years in federal prison.
Public Defender Tim Lutz could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
