MEDINA TWP. — Longtime public servant and township trustee Rita Holt died early Friday morning after a battle with cancer.
Trustee Michael Todd said Holt was “like a family member” who always tried to make things better for residents.
“She was always doing things for people no one knows about,” he said. “She loved people.”
Holt, 69, first served as a trustee from 1990 to 1998 and again from 2008 until her death. She also served on the township zoning commission for nine years, was the township’s fire commissioner for eight years and served on the Medina County Township Association.
“I am proud of Medina Township and care about the township,” she said in 2007. “We have the nicest people in the world.”
She was a 40-year resident of the township and a lifelong county resident.
Like himself, Todd said Holt could be stubborn at times, but remembers her as a strong woman who always stood up for what she believed in.
Holt is survived by her husband, Ralph; daughter, Sandra; son, Dan; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Carlson Funeral Home, 3477 Medina Road, and her service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Medina County Hospice.
