County auditor’s office lays of 8 part-time workers

MEDINA — Eight part-time employees received layoff notices Wednesday at the Medina County auditor’s office.

The employees work in several different departments, Auditor Mike Kovack said. The employees’ last day will be in early August.

The layoffs are part of a cost-cutting measure. All county department heads have been told to cut 5 percent from their budgets to offset a nearly $1 million county budget deficit.

Kovack said the cuts will save his office about $15,000.

“I think this should get us through the rest of the year,” he said.

Along with the layoffs of part-time employees, six student interns also will be let go early, Kovack said.
