BREAKING NEWS: Lodi man dies in motorcycle crash

MEDINA — The Medina Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash last night in Harrisville Township that claimed the life of a motorcyclist and sent another man to the hospital.

Charles E. Skotschir, 69, of Lodi, died as a result of the crash, which happened about 8:50 p.m. Monday on state Route 421 in Harrisville Township.

Skotschir was northbound on Route 421 on a 2006 Harley-Davidson Sporster when the driver of a southbound car, Rando N. Idiaquez, 27, of Strongsville, lost control and slid broadside across the center line, hitting Skotschir. Skotschir was thrown from his motorcycle into a ditch. He was not wearing a helmet.

Idiaquez, who was driving a 2003 Acura RSXS, was taken to Lodi Community Hospital, then flown by medical helicopter to Akron General Hospital. He was listed in serious condition Tuesday morning.

The crash remains under investigation, and alcohol or drug use is suspected, according to the Highway Patrol.

We love you very much and you will be deeply missed. This is a terrible tragedy! Charlie was loved dearly by family and many friends. Anyone who was lucky enough to know him will tell you he was a wonderful man with a big heart and would be there for anyone he cared about. He was in a class by himself, a one of a kind gem. He will remain in the hearts of many. He was killed by a drunk driver way before his time. I will be one of many who makes sure the SOB is put away for his crime.

I am so saddened by this accident…

I was there right after it happened, just before emergency was on the scene, while driving out of Lodi that night.

I had my 3 year old sleeping in the back seat of the car and was waved down in the road by two young girls who quickly needed a ride to the scene because they heard their friend was in the crash on the motorcycle.

Unfortuntaly, I never got their names. But if you two girls see this message I would like you to know how truly sorry I am for your loss. I am devastated by what happend that night.

God Bless you girls..and Charlie’s family.
    R.I.P. Charlie
