MEDINA — Adults and children can chow down at a sporting event Saturday on Public Square — the fourth annual Dan’s Dogs Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Sign-ups at Dan’s Dogs, 111 W. Liberty St., are ongoing for the four events in the contest, which begins at 3 p.m., rain or shine, at the Uptown Park gazebo.
Manager Christina Gordon said Dan’s Dogs is looking for more people to sign up for two new events: the team event and the foot race.
For $27, teams of three can sign up for the race and compete to eat the most hot dogs and buns in six minutes. The $8 foot race involves eating the most foot-long hot dogs in six minutes, sans buns. Winners receive a plaque.
The traditional adult and children’s contests are similar. For $10, adults compete to eat the most hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes; for $6, children ages 10-17 compete for six minutes. Winners of the adult and children’s contests receive a hot dog trophy and a $25 gift card to Dan’s Dogs.
Last year, the adult category winner downed 17 hot dogs.
The Cruise In, a car show for classic and unique cars, also is new this year, Gordon said. Parking spaces around the square will be reserved for the show.
Proceeds from the contest benefit United Way of Medina County.
“We chose United Way because they have a lot of programs that benefit people who live in the community,” she said.
