LIVERPOOL TWP. — The Valley City Frog Jump Festival is just a hop and a jump away.

The 48th annual festival will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Mill Stream Park off Maple Street.

Registration for the festival’s namesake event, the frog jump, begins at 10 a.m. It costs $3 to register per flight (jump), and renting a frog costs $5. Contestants will take their frogs into the jumping ring and see how far they can leap. The winners will be presented with trophies at the end of the day.

In addition to the frog jumps, there will be a retail shop that features official Frog Jump Festival T-shirts, other frog gift items and Valley City postcards.

Rod Knight, co-chairperson for the event, said there also will be a special commemorative U.S. Postal Service cancellation stamp that will be used to mark all letters sent at the Valley City Post Office tent at the festival.

“It’s useful for a curio sort of thing keepsake. And also stamp collectors would be interested in this,” he said.

Games for children will be available throughout the festival, and Medina County Park District chief naturalist Mark Ludwig will be on hand to teach people about amphibians.

Knight said festival organizers are still looking for volunteers to help hunt for frogs Friday night to rent at the festival on Sunday. Those interested can call Dave Raco at (330) 483-4836.

Linda Garrett of the Valley City Chamber of Commerce said volunteers also are needed to staff the different tents at the festival. Those interested can call the chamber at (330) 483-1111.
