YORK TWP. — An 18-year-old Brunswick resident will be cited for improper passing following a crash Nov. 19 on Abbeyville Road, Ohio Highway Patrol Lt. Joshua Swindell said.
Kyle Lezark was listed in fair condition Wednesday at Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center, a hospital spokesperson said. He had been listed in critical condition following the accident in which his Saturn struck a tree in the 4300 block of Abbeyville Road.
Lezark, a student at the Medina County Career Center, had to undergo more than one surgery, said Swindell, commander of the OHP’s Medina post. The OHP was waiting for Lezark’s condition to improve before citing him for the minor misdemeanor, he said.
At the accident scene, Granger Township resident Christopher Brodzinski, 19, said Lezark sped up to go around him on Abbeyville and almost clipped his car’s front end and a blue truck that was heading in the opposite direction.
“He came back over” into the right lane and “lost control when he hit the gravel,” Brodzinski said. “I slowed down, but Lezark swerved and crashed.”
Swindell said he suspects speed was a factor in the crash.
Minutes later, another accident occurred when a driver stopped on the side of the road to check on Lezark and his vehicle was hit, which pushed it into Brodzinski’s car in a nearby driveway.
