LODI — Two Spencer brothers were charged with second-degree felony robbery Thursday after they allegedly robbed a Lodi convenience store early that morning.
Billy Lafferty, 28, and Jessie Lafferty, 27, — both of 219 Liberty St. — are being held at Medina County Jail on $200,000 bond, a jail spokeswoman said Friday.
Police were called to a robbery at Circle K, 441 Medina St., at 12:57 a.m. Thursday, Lodi Police Chief Keith Keough said Friday. Witnesses said two male subjects wearing ski masks and dark clothing entered the store and immediately accosted a male clerk. Keough said the suspects tied up the clerk and then took him to a rear storage room, leaving him on the floor.
The men reportedly ransacked the store and took hundreds of dollars worth of cigarettes in cartons and lottery tickets, according to Keough. He said they also took an undetermined amount of cash.
The two fled on foot toward Vandemark Road and the clerk was able to free himself from the bindings.
Keough said an officer and a K-9 unit with the Seville Police Department tracked the alleged robbers to a nearby trailer park parking lot. He also said a Lodi officer saw a car pull out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed just after the robbery.
Keough said the license plate on the car corresponded to an acquaintance of the Laffertys. He said police obtained a search warrant for the car and later for the Laffertys’ residence. He said officers found materials at the home that led to the Laffertys’ arrest.
“A successful conclusion to this robbery is the direct result of the teamwork and cooperation between the Lodi Police Department and the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, Seville Police Department and Spencer Police Department,” Keough said.
