Browns’ draft order revealed

CLEVELAND — The Browns will make 12 selections in the upcoming NFL Draft, but the exact positions of their picks wasn’t known until now.

The league officially unveiled its draft order Thursday, including 32 compensatory choices and one pick forfeited by the Washington Redskins for taking part in the supplemental draft.

Cleveland’s five selections in the first three rounds will be made as scheduled — at No. 7, 38, 71, 85 and 92 — but its final seven choices were all bumped down multiple spots as a result of compensatory picks awarded by the NFL.

Teams are given bonus selections based on the quality of free agents they gain and lose during the previous season. The Browns were graded as gaining more talent than they lost under the formula developed by the NFL Management Council, which is based on salaries, playing time and postseason honors.

Nineteen franchises, including AFC North Division rivals Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, met the aforementioned criteria and received additional compensatory picks between the end of the third and the seventh rounds.

The 2010 NFL Draft will be held from April 22-24, with the first two days on prime-time television.

The first round takes place on April 22, the second and third on April 23, and the fourth-through-seventh rounds on April 24. A total of 255 players will be chosen.
