Medina Township firefighters work to extinguish a car fire Friday afternoon on Interstate 71. No one was injured. Ohio Highway Patrol Sgt. Tim DeArmitt said that at 5:35 p.m., Sarah L. Brannan, 24, of West Salem, was southbound on I-71 when she noticed smoke coming from the engine of her 1999 Toyota Camry. She pulled over onto the exit ramp about 200 yards from state Route 3 in Medina Township and flames started shooting out of the hood. Brannan escaped safely. It took fire crews 5 to 10 minutes to put out the flames. I-71 was shut down briefly in case the gas tank exploded, DeArmitt said. (Aaron Josefczyk / Gazette)
