Crash shuts down Route 3

MONTVILLE TWP. — An accident involving a semi tractor-trailer and car temporarily shut down state Route 3 on Wednesday afternoon because the truck’s fuel tank was leaking.

No one was seriously injured.

At 12:19 p.m., Claude Piwinski, 50, of Cleveland, was northbound on Route 3 in a tractor-trailer and attempted to turn left onto state Route 162 when a southbound Ford Fusion driven by Tiffany Reagan hit the truck, police said.

The impact caused the semi’s 120-gallon fuel tank to leak. Fire crews were able to stop the leak, Montville police Sgt. Matthew Neil said.

Reagan, 35, of Medina, was transported to Medina Hospital, where she was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The semi driver was not injured, Neil said.

Neil said the accident is under investigation, and it was unclear if the semi was stopped in the road or if the Fusion failed to stop. As of Wednesday, no one had been cited.
