CHATHAM TWP. — A man is dead following an apparent home invasion Thursday afternoon on Richman Road, authorities said.

Medina County Sheriff Neil Hassinger and Chief Deputy Ken Baca would not confirm the victim’s name late Thursday night pending notification of family, but Frank G. Munz is listed as a resident at 5394 Richman Road.

Munz, 73, has been involved with the Chatham Historical Society and has served on the township’s board of zoning appeals and the Medina County Planning Commission. Hassinger said deputies responded to a call about a home invasion or burglary in progress about 2:30 p.m.

Litchfield and Chatham Township emergency medical crews worked on the victim for an hour, Hassinger said at the scene. Medina County Coroner Neil Grabenstetter said the victim suffered from a head injury.

An emergency helicopter landed but left without transporting anyone.

Baca said a police dog pursued a man who was fleeing in the woods behind the Munz house. The man was apprehended, but authorities would not release his name Thursday night.

Later Thursday night, county Prosecutor Dean Holman said he was not able to comment on what charges, if any, would be brought against the man.

Authorities would be working throughout the night gathering evidence, Baca said, and would release more information this morning.
