BRUNSWICK — Two men suspected in several thefts from vehicles in the city were in the Medina County Jail on Thursday.

Vincent Martz, 22, of 1463 Princeton Drive, and Anthony Hall, 19, of 3700 Manchester Drive, were arrested early Wednesday on charges of theft, criminal trespassing, possession of criminal tools and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Hall also is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly carrying a marijuana pipe, according to a police report.

Both are scheduled to be arraigned today in Medina Municipal Court on the misdemeanor charges.

Martz and Hall are accused of going through unlocked vehicles and taking items Tuesday night. Several items reportedly were found on Martz and Hall, including a Canon Powershot camera, two iPods, a CD player and $5.18 in loose change, police said.

On Wednesday, police received 12 reports of thefts from vehicles. Nine of those were in the vicinity of the Parkwood Village Apartments or in nearby neighborhoods, and many of those claims involved items that reportedly were found on or near Hall and Martz, according to police.

Areas from which thefts were reported included Lily Court, Edgebrook Drive, Clearbrooke Drive and Foxwood Terrace.

Martz and Hall allegedly told police they were indigent and that’s why they were stealing from cars, according to the report.

Police Chief Carl DeForest said officers made the arrests with help from residents who witnessed two men going through vehicles, but police aren’t done looking into the thefts.

“This is not the only group who’s doing this,” he alleged.

He said while most of the thefts were from unlocked vehicles, there have been reports of cars being broken into as well.

“We highly recommend people lock your doors,” DeForest said. “Usually, it’s the simple things that keep people out.”
