Storm culvert project closes College Street
WADSWORTH — College Street will be closed for about a month beginning Monday so the city can complete a $550,000 flood prevention project.
The project will reconstruct the storm and sanitary sewers under the street and cause College Street to be closed to through traffic between Grandview Avenue and Kyle Street for 28 days, city Service Director Chris Easton said.
“The existing storm sewer is inadequate in size, and water ends up going over College Street in a major flooding event, in addition to flooding properties nearby,” Easton said.
A 190-foot-long, 10-by-6-foot culvert will be built along the road, he said.
“It’s a lower area and there’s a water course that moves through the area — so in times of heavy rain there is a lot of flooding,” he said.
About half of the project’s cost is covered by Issue 1 Ohio Public Works funding.
While construction will cost about $295,000, the remainder of the costs covered the acquisition and demolition of a College Street house, Easton said.
