Grafton youth injured late Thursday in go-cart, vehicle crash

GRAFTON TWP. — A 12-year-old Grafton boy is in good condition after being transported to a Cleveland hospital Thursday night following a go-cart accident, according to a Medina General Hospital spokeswoman.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, James Mulkey, 12, was pulling his go cart out of a field and attempting to go south on Neff Road less than a mile east of state Route 83 a little after 6 p.m. Thursday. A dispatcher said he failed to yield and was struck by an eastbound 1988 Oldsmobile driven by Cynthia Claycomb, 35, of Litchfield.

Mulkey was taken to Medina hospital, according to the state patrol. He was then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Claycomb wasn’t injured, according to a patrol dispatcher.

The dispatcher was unsure whether anyone was cited.
