FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Hinckley Township’s Jessica Porvasnik failed to qualify Wednesday for the final round of the 35th Junior PGA Championship held at Sycamore Hills Golf Club.
The incoming Highland sophomore — and reigning Gazette MVP in the sport — fired a 9-over-par 81 to finish out of a qualifying spot. She carded an 85 in Monday’s opening round and was 11 strokes off of advancing.
After Tuesday’s second round was washed out due to nearly two inches of rain, the tournament became a 36-hole event before the field was cut Wednesday to the top 35 golfers.
Porvasnik’s best moment of the day came on the 475-yard, par-5 15th hole, where she recorded her first and only birdie of the tournament.
Kyle Roig of Puerto Rico is the tournament leader by two strokes heading into today’s final round.
The first female to qualify this decade for the national tournament, Porvasnik qualified after winning the PGA Junior Series event at Penn State University. The 15-year-old finished that event with a 219 (73-74-72) in the three-day tournament.
