Cyclist, 15, taken to hospital after bike hits car

MEDINA — A 15-year-old boy was transported to the hospital after the bicycle he was riding hit a vehicle Friday on East Reagan Parkway.

About 5 p.m., the boy “shot out” of the rear driveway of the BP gas station at the corner of North Court Street and Reagan Parkway and struck the right front fender of a westbound vehicle, Police Chief Patrick Berarducci said.

The bike was not equipped with brakes, he said.

“The driver of the vehicle was not at fault … they were not cited,” Berarducci said.

The boy suffered head injuries and was transported to Medina Hospital. He later was taken to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center by emergency helicopter, the chief said.

A section of Reagan Parkway was closed while detectives investigated, the chief said.

Police refused to release the victim’s name Friday night, so The Gazette was unable to obtain the boy’s status.
