Medina County girls golfers roll on

CANTON — Medina County girls golfers had another grand Saturday, this time with a winner in each division of the Midwest Classic at par-72 Skyland Pines Golf Course.

In the Midwest Division, which features top teams from Ohio and Indiana, Highland edged seven-time Indiana state champion Martinsville 314-317 to remain unbeaten and add a new elite team to its hit list.

Junior Stephanie Horvath, who has played very well so far this fall, rolled in 13 pars and one birdie to finish fifth individually with a 3-over 75, while back-to-back Gazette MVPs Jessica Porvasnik and Lauren McKinzie each added 78s.

In the lower-class Ohio Division, Wadsworth’s Alice Ho took medalist honors with a 2-over 74 that led all county participants. Ho’s score was so impressive it was just one stroke off the Midwest Division winner. Sophomore Katy Ho added an 85 for the Grizzlies, who took third with a 362.
