SHARON TWP. — A 16-year-old township girl was shaken up but not injured this morning when she rolled her car on her way to pick up a friend before school.

Tess Ilkanic, a Highland High School junior, was driving east in the 500 block of Fixler Road about 7 a.m. when she drifted off the right side of the road, over-corrected and flipped her gray, 1997 Toyota Corolla into a ditch, according to Trooper Nicholas Clemens of the Ohio Highway Patrol. The vehicle rolled once and ended up on its roof.

Ilkanic was the lone occupant in the Toyota, Clemens said. She was “looked over” by an emergency medical crew at the scene but did not require a trip to the hospital, he said.

“The driver was on her way to get a friend for school and only had her license for about a week,” the trooper said.

Ilkanic was wearing a seat belt. She was cited for failure to control a vehicle, Clemens said.

In addition to the OHP, the Sharon Township Fire Department responded to the accident.
