Cleveland woman pleads guilty in toddler scalding death

CLEVELAND — A Cleveland woman has pleaded guilty to murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, who police say was scalded in hot water after she soiled bed sheets.

Thirty-year-old Tyesha Hamilton entered the plea Wednesday and a judge immediately sentenced her to life in prison with parole possible after 15 years.

Hamilton’s daughter, Alexandria, was found unresponsive by paramedics at an apartment with her mother in February.

Investigators believe the girl was scalded at a nearby hotel where Hamilton was staying, then taken to a friend’s house where Hamilton tried to treat the injuries.

County officials say Hamilton had been reunited with the girl and Hamilton’s three other children last year after she lost custody of them in 2007 because she neglected them while struggling with drug addiction.
