CLEVELAND — Cleveland has put up monitoring towers at two sites to see if they offer the right conditions for wind power.
City sustainability chief Andrew Watterson told The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer the nearly 200-foot towers that went up earlier this month will track wind at the locations for about a year. Officials want to determine whether they’d be good spots for large industrial turbines.
Cleveland would like to build two 1.5 megawatt turbines at a water treatment plant to help provide its power. A third turbine would generate power for a Jergens Inc. factory that produces industrial components.
