Grocery store celebrates grand reopening

MEDINA — Giant Eagle celebrated a grand reopening this week for its 33,000-square-foot store expansion.

Construction began on the former 59,631-square-foot store at 870 N. Court St. more than seven months ago. The store is now 98,005 square feet, spokesman Erik Yorke said.

“We’re very excited about our presence in Medina County. We see it as a growing community and wanted to follow suit by expanding the store and provide new services our customers can take advantage of,” he said.

The store employs 215 people and will add approximately 75 more employees to staff a drive-through pharmacy, Dress for Success dry cleaner, an Eagle’s Nest child activity center and other departments, Yorke said.

In January, the store will open a 9,216-square-foot health, beauty and wellness department.

“The health, beauty and wellness department is going to look a lot different than what folks are used to,” Yorke said.

“It’s going to have a ton more organic products, and we’ll staff a licensed esthetician and dietician and nutritionist.”
The esthetician and dietician will conduct ongoing wellness events, he said.

A new cafe with a salad bar and panini station; full-service meat and seafood departments; a larger beer, wine and liquor selection; and a “cheese shop” with more than 400 selections.

Additionally, the in-store Charter One bank has been remodeled, and there is now an outdoor ATM, he said.

Yorke declined to divulge the cost of the expansion.
