Browns down 13-10 at halftime

CLEVELAND – The good start by the Browns fizzled in the second quarter as the Ravens scored 13 unanswered points. A late 31-yard Phil Dawson field goal pulled the Browns within 13-10 at halftime.

The Browns blew their chance for a touchdown and the lead by failing to take a timeout from the 23-yard line with about a minute left. They allowed nearly 40 seconds to run off following a run up the middle, then had to kick a field goal on third down from the 13-yard line. The went into the locker room with two timeouts unused.

Baltimore took a 10-7 lead on a 15-yard Joe Flacco pass to T.J. Houshmandzadeh after Browns receiver Mohamed Massaquoi fumbled trying to fight for extra yardage. The turnover came on Cleveland’s first play after a 16-play Ravens drive that took nearly nine minutes. Baltimore took over at the Cleveland 20-yard line.

Colt McCoy’s second interception of the game set up Billy Cundiff’s second field goal, this one from 40 yards. McCoy apparently didn’t see Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed deep in the zone.

Elyria native and Ravens safety Haruki Nakamura blitzed on the play, hitting McCoy just after he released the ball. Nakamura got past Browns running back Peyton Hillis.

Hillis has been splitting time with backup Mike Bell. Hillis nursed a sore knee during the week, then took a shot to the back in the first quarter.
