Pat Shurmur interviews with Browns; Mike Mularkey tomorrow

BEREA – Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur was the first candidate interviewed by the Browns for their vacant coaching job. A team spokesman said the meeting concluding this afternoon.

The Browns’ policy is to confirm candidates only after they’ve interviewed.

The Browns are scheduled to interview Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey on Saturday, and reportedly Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell next week.

Shurmur shares a history, and an agent, with Browns president Mike Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert. Fritz Shurmur, Pat’s uncle, was the defensive coordinator when Holmgren coached the Packers. Heckert was the GM in Philadelphia during Shurmur’s stint as quarterbacks coach.

Shurmur just completed his second season with the Rams, finishing with the 26th-ranked offense in scoring (18.1 points) and yardage. He spent seven seasons as Eagles quarterbacks coach (2002-08), tutoring Donovan McNabb.
