Bodies recovered from explosion identified

HINCKLEY TWP. — Two bodies pulled from a home that exploded on Hinckley Hills Road on Monday morning have been positively identified as the homeowners, Fred and Claire Martin, authorities said.

Medina County Coroner Neil Grabenstetter said the bodies were identified at the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office using dental records.

Grabenstetter said several test results are pending, but the preliminary autopsies are complete.

Emergency responders were called to 1488 Hinckley Hills Road at 7:20 Monday morning after reports of an explosion and flames.

The bodies were recovered later in the day as fire fighters worked to contain a fire that leveled the two-story house.

Division of State Fire Marshal spokesman Shane Cartmill said the house’s propane heating system is being investigated as a possible cause of the explosion.
