Medina woman slams into drive-through beverage store

MEDINA — A customer attempting to turn into Medina Drive Thru Beverages on Monday morning missed the entryway and crashed her vehicle into the building.

Officer J.D. Valentine said the 28-year-old Medina woman pulled into the parking lot of the drive-through at 245 Lafayette Road about 11:50 a.m. and smashed into the right side of the store with her black Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4. The crash caused significant damage to the sport utility vehicle and to the siding of the building, he said.

The woman was taken to Medina Hospital for treatment of a minor cut on her chin, Valentine said.

Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the accident, which is under investigation, he said.

Valentine said it was not determined how fast the SUV was traveling when it hit the building.

He said a building inspector from Brunswick will assess damage to the drive-through.

The store temporarily closed after the crash as a safety precaution, he said.

Kathy Parker, manager of Medina Drive Thru Beverages, said there have been some “minor whoopses” at the store, but this is the first time there’s been major damage.

She said customers can pull in front until the drive-through damage is repaired.

Charges are pending against the driver regarding the accident and for alleged theft of a road sign, Valentine said.

Police recovered a Chapman Lane road sign, which was attached to a pole, inside the woman’s vehicle, he said.
