MEDINA TWP. — A Medina woman is in serious condition Monday after a two-vehicle accident at state Route 3 and South Weymouth Road, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Trooper Steve Robison said Rose Hoffman, 75, was at the stop sign on South Weymouth around 2:30 p.m. and was trying to turn left onto Route 3 when she failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
An eastbound 2004 Ford truck driven by Brian Kittrick, 33, of North Olmsted, collided with Hoffman’s 1997 Lexus sedan, Robison said, sending the Lexus off the north side of the road.
“He struck her in the driver’s side door,” Robison said.
The Jaws of Life from the Medina Fire Department was required to remove Hoffman from her car, he said.
“We had to cut the driver’s side front door off to get her out,” he said.
An ambulance took Hoffman to Medina Hospital, Robison said, where she was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
A MetroHealth spokeswoman said Hoffman was in serious condition Monday night.
The driver of the truck was not injured and was wearing his seat belt, Robison said. It was not known if Hoffman was wearing hers, he said.
The speed limit in the area is 55 mph.
Robison said the accident is under investigation.
