Tossing one perfect game in a day is a great accomplishment for any pitcher.
But two in a day is almost unheard of.
Not to Ashland University hurler Emlyn Knerem, who recorded a pair of clean sheets last Friday in wins over Wheeling Jesuit and Edinboro.
The former Gazette MVP and Brunswick standout improved to 4-1 on the season after an 8-0 triumph over the Cardinals and a 10-0 blanking of the Fighting Scots at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee Fla.
The junior right-hander, tossed a five-inning gem to open the evening as she fanned 11 of the 15 batters she faced, throwing strikes on 43 of her 61 pitches.
Knerem was even more impressive in the nightcap as she struck hte 15 batters she faced — 10 swinging — to match a career-high for Ks in a game. As a freshman she sat down 15 in a one-hit shutout win over Tiffin.
For her career, Knerem now has four no-hitters and three perfect games, along with throwing back-to-back no-no’s for the second time in her collegiate career — but never on the same day like Friday.
This season, she has 76 strikeouts and just six walks in 44 innings pitched. Knerem has also gone the distance in six of her seven starts and surrendered just six runs, three earned.
