Report says Ohio death sentences in 2010 was highest in years

COLUMBUS — An annual report submitted by Ohio’s attorney general shows seven defendants were sentenced to death in the state during 2010.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that was the largest number in seven years.

Attorney General Mike DeWine’s Ohio Capital Crimes Annual Report shows Ohio has issued 310 death sentences since 1981. Forty-three inmates have been executed, including eight last year.

The report said the average executed inmate was 43 years old and spent more than 15 years on death row.
