BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick school board Monday night renewed Superintendent Mike Mayell’s contract through 2016 and gave him a boost in pay.
Mayell will make $135,000 starting with the 2012-13 school year and will receive an additional $4,000 a year until July 2016. He makes $125,000 annually under his current contract, which expires in July 2012.
Board president Lisa Durichko said the increased base salary was negotiated and the $4,000 a year is a step increase.
She said this will be Mayell’s first pay increase since he became superintendent in 2009 because he declined two years of step increases.
“As a board, we think he’s doing a great job,” Durichko said after Monday’s board meeting,“He had big shoes to fill and he’s been able to stand in his own shoes.”
One of the goals the board is rewarding him for, Durichko said, is maintaining the district’s “excellent” rating.
Mayell thanked the board during the meeting and said he wants this job to be a long-term commitment.
“This is the district I truly want to retire from,” he said.
