BEREA — The Browns stayed with defense in the second round, picking Pittsburgh defensive end Jabaal Sheard with the No. 37 overall pick.
They drafted defensive tackle Phil Taylor in the first round at No. 21.
Sheard had nine sacks and was the Big East Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. Like Taylor, Sheard also had some legal issues.
He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after throwing a man through a glass door at an art gallery, according to Pro Football Weekly. He was reinstated following a team suspension and was voted team captain.
Sheard is 6-foot-3, 264 pounds. He’s athletic with good speed (a 4.68-second 40-yard dash).
The Browns’ next pick is No. 59, which was acquired from Atlanta in a trade Thursday.
